Getting a virus on your computer has become as easy as catching a cold. The only difference is that each day it becomes harder and harder to protect your computer from viruses. While it may seem a little dramatic, the truth is that you cannot leave your computer off guard for one second!

Before internet and computer downloaded content was available, the primary way your computer could get a virus was if it was transmitted through a floppy disk. Also then it was much easier to eradicate your computer of those viruses. Now technology has advanced. The internet has changed. You can easily catch an virus on your computer through your email, email attachments, downloading songs, software and any other digital content. Viruses today can attack your computer through several entry points.

Good for us, there has also been an advancement in antivirus software. Even if you are not an avid computer user you should also have an good antivirus software to protect your computer. Antivirus software helps an computer to fend off viruses and other nasty programs meant to hurt your computer. Antivirus software can protect virus from entering from several entry points such as through email, web browsers, file sharing and other ways.

Here are a few ways you can protect your computer from virus threats:

1. Regularly evaluate your computers current security settings. With threats of new viruses able to attack your computer in various ways, your antivirus software should always be updated.

2. Only install antivirus software from well known companies. Some people make the mistake of getting the cheapest software available. Most of the time the cheapest software will not effectively protect your computer.

3. Always exercise caution when downloading files from email attachments and from other websites even if you know it’s origin. Some antivirus software scans downloadable attachments for viruses before you download it to your computer.

The best thing you can do in protecting yourself from virus threats is to always exercise caution. If you are suspicious of an email attachment; don’t open it. Don’t download songs, programs or any other digital content from unknown sources.
